TNT's Pilot TNR Program

Organized by Alvin-Friendswood Veterinary Clinic Adoptions

Whoo-Hoo!
What is a TNR Program?
Trap-Neuter-Release begins with the trapping of feral cats. The captured feral cats are taken (in the trap) to a veterinary clinic where they are sterilized by the neutering of males and spaying of females. Typical TNR programs also involve providing the cats vaccinations but we aren't there yet. Finally the cats are marked so that they can be easily identified as a sterilized feral, usually by cropping the pointed end of the ear so that it has a square appearance (known as ear tipping) or cutting a notch at the tip or on the side of the ear. After the cat is sterilized, it is placed back in the trap and allowed to recover from surgery. It is subsequently released to the site of capture.
What we are doing...
We have 9 kittens that need to be spayed & neutered. We will be housing them at the clinic until they get big enough to be altered. 5 of them are coming from a feral cat colony that we are testing out a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) program and keeping our paws crossed that it works out for the best. I am hoping the kittens aren't too feral and maybe we can adopt them out while they heal. We have 2 that we pulled from Friendswood animal control because they were over-run with kittens/cats and they were going to get the bad juice! The remaining two kittens came from the mentioned feral cat colony and one is healthy as a clam and LOVES people so we are going to adopt him out and then the other is a little sickly and should be going home with a foster for some TLC... So, what do I need? Mainly, money... it costs about $50/cat to TNR and at 9 cats that comes out to about $450
I am hoping to take this pilot program and possibly apply it to some other local feral cat colonies in the future but for right now this is the trial run and I want it to go smooth so that way I can keep this going!!!
